whats the best way to fish Abbots??

Postby harpo » Sun May 01, 2011 9:51 pm

how do I go about getting a bite on abbots? any particular areas, rigs, baits? I'm not sure the best way to approach it. As i only have day sessions, do they like plenty of bait? spread of bait? tight bed of bait well positioned?

It depends what you are after.
I normally fish for the bream and tench on the groundbait feeder with maggot or caster. Normally catch something and rarely fish longer than 4 hour sessions.
I tried the pole with maggot last time a couple of weeks back and had roach, bream, perch, rudd, a chub, dace, and a bleak. Looks like the river has flooded in, so we may have gained/lost stock. Maybe there are barbel in there now? Could be interesting...
I don't carp fish in the camping sense, so can't advise on that front.
Next up is a lobworm session there - I am after a BIG tench :)
